What is a node of information?
A node (or unit) is the smallest information element of a hypertext.
Nodes are unique to a hypertext to the greatest extent possible (i.e. hypertexts are normalized).
Nodes make sense in and out of context.
The example below shows a node diagram from the financial services industry. It is a hierarchy of information in the category of Asset Classes. Think of each box as a container for paragraphs of information, analogous to how a relational database has data element containers. The node diagram defines how information is stored, maintained, and linked in the performance-centered interface.
