With HotDocs, you can automate the process of preparing standard documents with your favorite word processing program. You can create a series of custom pop-up dialog boxes that prompt a user to type information or select options. This information could include a person's name, a date, a number or a short message. HotDocs works with Microsoft Word, WordPerfect and Lotus AmiPro.

Using HotDocs

HotDocs puts a start-up icon on your word processor's button bar. When you click on the HotDocs button the program will display a list of template files. You can easily create a new template from an existing document. Simply select the text that you want to be able to change from a dialog box. When you click on the “variable button”, HotDocs displays a dialog box where you can define the content of your custom data entry dialog. You can add your own help messages and specify the format of the response.

To fill in a document, a user would simply click on the HotDocs button to display an expandable list of template files. When they select a template, HotDocs takes over and displays your custom dialog boxes until the document is complete. You can even fill in a document by using the answers saved in a file. HotDocs will display the custom dialog boxes with the saved answers and the user can change any one of the items.

Assessment

If your employees are repeatedly using a word processor to create a variety of standard documents, then HotDocs could be worthwhile investment. It is relatively easy to use and powerful enough to deal with the most complex requirements.
