The
new application interface was launched in April 2001 and is currently
being implemented across a large number of KnowledgePlanet’s
customers.
Feedback
reported from existing customers indicates that they are able to
introduce the application to learners more quickly than was the case
with the previous version. For those customers who have been using the
previous version for a long time, there has been an anticipated
transition period, because users had gotten used to the layout and
navigation from the previous version. However, learners say they prefer
the new design as they become more familiar with it, in particular their
personal To Do List.
Customer
implementation managers who worked with the previous version have also
said that they appreciate the new design. They have been able to reduce
the planned activities surrounding the roll-out of the application to
their employees because they expect the learners to understand more
readily what they are to do when using the application. There has also
been some reduced implementation cost due to simplifying changes to the
interface text through the new editor. This will have ongoing savings,
as the text changes will be able to more easily move between versions
without requiring rework.
The current “learner”
redesign is the first stage in a much larger overall
performance-centered development process. It has been well received by
customers and users, as well as internal KnowledgePlanet staff who have
a long familiarity with the status quo.
