Designer's Catalog > Consumer Software > Yeah Write |
Yeah Write is an innovative word processor that eliminates the need to learn about the computer file system and remember file locations. Yeah Write uses a drawer and folder metaphor. Drawers are used to organize content by individual user or by purpose, such as business and personal. Each drawer contains the same type of folders. Each folder holds a different type of document. Figure 1 shows the E-Mail folder. To add a new e-mail you simply double click the word "New" and compose the message. Yeah Write automatically saves the message and basic information about the e-mail is added to the underlying table. You can sort the tables by clicking on a column name.
Yeah Write is a good example of a performance centered design. The software's conceptual model matches a user's goal - to create a specific type of document. The document templates contains fields for adding specific types of content. For example the letter template has a field for an address. The design lets a user focus on adding content and not become overly involved in the layout of the document. To use Yeah Write, a user doesn't need to learn about opening and using templates or naming, saving and opening documents. In Yeah Write everything is very visible and obvious.
While Yeah Write may not be the best product for a serious word processing project, it would be great for a family or any organization the needs a simple word processor to quickly and easily create letters, faxes and memos. You can download a copy of from the Yeah Write web site.
